One of a kind..

It was a breezy cool afternoon as i was sitting and staring at the Kuwaiti Alps when i was thinking what to post today; then it got me: GOOGLE!

So very creatively i googled the phrase: "What to blog about" and i found something that I've always wanted to do on the blog but never really did it: Interview someone.

Whatever you don't need to hear my life story i'm just going to tell you that one of the great minds of the 21st century is going to interview one of the other great minds of the 21st century. BAZINGA!

A couple of months ago as i was reading user recommendations (#FF) on Twitter that i stumbled upon this wonderful profile that showcased a highly understanding girl with deep views on life. Then i found her blog which dazzles me in every post because i feel so connected to it!

Perhaps i should cut to the chase:

Wahab: Sarah; Introduce yourself:

Sarah: I'm a Syrian Kuwaiti hybrid, born in the US and raised in Canada. I'm a first year student at KU, and I love being able to say I go to KU than actually going there. I've got hippie tendencies, balanced by a Republican's temper. Music and literature, and tea. I love tea.
Didn't i tell you she ROCKS? LOL that will be more apparent soon...

Wahab: What drove you to start blogging?

Sarah: Well, a friend had a blog and asked me to guest write on it. This was back in May 2010. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I love writing so I jumped at the opportunity. A few months later, I was enjoying blogging so much that I decided to start my own. I mainly do it to try to spread the knowledge I've learnt from my extended travels, and to create discussion. Discussion is the first step towards social change, which is what I hope to create in Kuwait.

Wahab: You're a genius! How did the audience (readers) perceive you at first?

Sarah: Honestly, I don't have a huge audience, but I've gained a small group of readers. From what I understand, the majority found me to be interesting, and I'm sure a few felt I was arrogant. At the end of the day, people who've read my writing like it because it's a change. I don't blog about cupcakes or brownies. I blog about KU, social issues and feminism, all while trying to inject some humor into the mix. I think my readers appreciate my humor. Oh, and my grammar.

Wahab: Well i definitely agree about the grammar; humor too. Cyberspace aside; what's your dream?

Sarah: I've always dreamt of a career in politics. Not for the fame of purported glamor of a position of power, but because I truly want to change the world for the better. Women's rights are my calling. Being a young woman from this region, not a day goes by when I don't thank the universe for my life. Things could have been very different for me, a female in the Middle East. For better or worse, I'm grateful and humbled by every opportunity I've ever had.
Margaret Thatcher; how I imagine Sarah.

Wahab: looking forward to seeing the next Margaret Thatcher. How does it feel to be a female in the middle east?

Sarah: I'm not going to lie, sometimes it's irritating. Kuwait isn't bad in general, but it's the little things that get to you. Being both young and female, I have to be careful about what I say, how I say it and who I say it too. That last part is very important, especially in a tight knit society like Kuwait, where words spreads fast. However, like I said, day-to-day, it's not too bad. It could be better though.

Wahab: How would you change it?

Sarah: Like I mentioned earlier, it's all about discussion. An exchange of ideas, the creation of dialogue... these are the tools that would help loosen up these ties we (Kuwait's youth) struggle with. However, the change needs to be gradual. Change takes time and patience. It's why I discuss the topics I do on my blog. I'm just trying to get people to think about these things, maybe see them in a new light. It's the first step, for now.

I told you she rocks!

Wahab: On another topic; What are your hobbies? And how do you practice them?

Sarah: My hobbies? Well this may come as a shock to many, but I studied sewing and fashion design for two years when I was living in Canada. For a very long time, fashion was my life, then I discovered politics. However, to this very day my hobby is make up. I'm very serious about it; I see it as an art form, and a craft. You can only imagine my shock at my first Kuwaiti wedding.

Wahab: LMAO @ Kuwaiti weddings! Nice hobbies i must say. I'm pretty sure you're a good reader; what do you like to read?

Sarah: I'm sad to say I haven't been reading as much as I'd like to since we moved to Kuwait. In Canada, I used to go through about 10-20 books a month. Fiction is my choice, in not then biographies are always interesting. Fantasy is a genre I could never get into. However, let it be noted I am a massive Potter fan. That series was my childhood.

Wahab: Nice! Why did your reading rate decrease since the big move?

Sarah: Back home, I'd spend a lot of time during the school day and weekends in libraries. Here, we don't have libraries (KU's is tragic, all science and math books) so I don't have access to as many books. Being busy, I don't get out much, and so my trips to bookstores aren't as frequent as I'd like.

Wahab: Sorry to hear that. Well as much as i'd love for this interview to never end; i don't want to overdo it LOL. So thank you miss Sarah for participating in our little talk show. And we look forward to seeing your achievements in the future.

Sarah: Woohoo, this was sooo fun. Thank you for the chance to chat and you rock!

Well i must say it was fun. And this is my first interview so take it easy on me LOL.

Here's how you can Call Sarah

  1. AMAZING!
    Loved the interview really.
And mind me saying, for a girl who knows sarah(not very well) I can say she is great.
And about the make up? yeah she did my make up for the graduation pictures.
Her make up is soo different from kuwaiti make up, and I really hope kuwait learns her methods because our make up is a disaster.

Thanks 4 the great interview! And Good luck Sarah with your goals.
